RMS EXE (frigate), HMS BIDEFORD (sloop) and Corvettes

Can anyone who served on the Arctic Convoy (JW56-JW67) from Liverpool to Murmansk (July 1944-May 1945) remember Surgeon Lieutenant Ian Goodson-Wickes, RNVR?
He served in RMS EXE (frigate), HMS BIDEFORD (sloop) and Corvettes. In the abscence of Adequate war office records I wish to establish his entitlement to the Arctic Emblem.

Any anecdotal information would be very much appreciated.

HMS Marigold

My Grandfather served on HMS Marigold in WW2. The Marigold sunk the Uboat and captured the crew that sunk Ark Royal. I have a copy of the ode "Marigold" sent to her from aircraft carrier HMS Audacity on the 21/11/41. My image photo shows my Grandad William Dawes aboard the Marigold with some mates.

Officer Crew Lists

I have seen a few people ask about obtaining crew lists.

A very good way of getting a list of officers is by looking in the Navy Lists. These are held at various locations including NMM Greenwich.

The lists were completed every few months (I can't recall how many times a year) and list every ship and its officers. By simply reading the years that you are after (Obviously most go for the war years) you can get a complete list of officers and the transfers on/off your ship!

Causes of death of former crew?

My Dad served on a Flower Class corvette in WWII (I believe it was the Lotus). He has just been diagnosed with mesothelioma - a cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. Due to the corvettes' pipes being lagged with asbestos and the dreadful conditions in which the crew lived, he believes his illness is a result of his service.

I'm sure he's not the only one - many other men must have died of mesothelioma, asbestosis and lung cancer in the years since the war.

Im after any info on my grandfather Anthony Burden,
I've been told that he served in the navy during the war on escort duty.
Also the rather sketchy info I have is that he was "first officer in engineering" (sic) so would I be right in saying that he was a CPO? and that his ship was sunk and that he was reported missing for about a month after spending about two weeks in a life boat and another two weeks trying to get back home after finding land (possibly the liberian coast)...

Name: Signalman David Chappell
Called up April 12 1941 - went to "Ganges"
October 1941 was in Devonport.
December 1941 was on "Empire Fulmar"
March 1942 was on "Empire Fulmar"
October1943 left "Cygnet"

George Walker from Rotherham, Tom Worthington from Wincobank Sheffield (stoker) Crooks Sheffield (chef) Schofield (engineer) Barnsley, Tommy Tindle(seaman) Sheffield, Alan Proctor (Bradford) W/T. These names were written inside the cover of the book P.Q.17 as local lads on board by my late father Reuben Albert Reynolds who was a coder on Lotus. am looking for information on "Douglas George Jeffrey - Navigator and Magnetician" who was part of the Shackelton - Rowett Expedition, and apparently served in the Canadian Navy and was in command of (amongst others) HMS Hollyhock. Can anyone shed any light on this mans time on hollyhock? as I have no reference to him aboard her at all.

I was under the impression that Lieut-Commander Davies was her only captain??
