Glad that the pictures were of use to you. Where is your grandfather in the photos and what was his role on the ship ?

Info. from the book The Ships of Canada's Naval Forces 1910-1981 (Ken Macpherson & John Burgess, Collins, 1981):

Ship commissioned at Montreal 28/11/40.
Arrived Halifax 11/12/40 to work up and complete stores.
9/2/41 Mayflower leaves with convoy HX108 for the UK and was at this time fitted only with a dummy main gun. Refitted with main armament on the Tyne River, UK in May 1941.
Left Loch Ewe as a member of Escort Group 4 with convoy OB332 for Iceland on June 10th 1941. Later in June 1941 she joined the Newfoundland Command and for the rest of 1941 she served between Iceland and St. John's as an ocean escort.

She took part in the battle of convoy SC44 when four merchant ships and the corvette HMCS Levis were lost. Mayflower picked up survivors from HMCS Levis (we have photos of the torpedoed HMCS Levis elsewhere in this images section of the forums, check the other pages of photos).

After a major refit at Charleston, S.C. from 9/12/41 to 9/2/42 Mayflower resumed her mid ocean escort role on the Newfoundland-Derry run until April 1944.

In April 1942 she became a member of Escort Group A3, transferring to Escort Group C3 in Feb 43. She underwent two further long refits from 29/10/42 to 11/1/43 at Pictou and 29/11/43 to 14/2/44 at Norfolk, Va. She received her extended forecastle in the latter refit. After the last refit she worked up at St. Margaret's Bay then sailed on April 21 1944 to the UK to join Western Approaches Command at Greenock for D-Day invasion duties. She left Oban, Scotland on May 31st to escort blockships for Normandy and arrived off the beaches on the day after D-Day. For the remainder of the war she operated in UK waters and on May 31 1945 she was paid off for return to the RN. She was laid up at Grangemouth, Scotland and broken up at Inverkeithing in 1949.

If you are in the US or Canada the Canadian Naval Archives are your best bet for more info. and photographs of the ship. Details of crew rarely survive as the ships logs and crew lists generally were not retained after the war. You could try the Flower Class Corvette Association (FCCA) here in the UK for info. on the crew and ship plus photos - contact details are given in the FCCA forum at the top of the main page.
