Thanks to Captain Brown for the heads-up on this news.

The Candian Government, via the National Defence and Canadian Forces website, have released a large collection of high resolution WWII Canadian corvette and other warship images from their archives for free download as part of the Candian Navy Heritage Project. If you go here http://www.navy.gc.ca/project_pride/photo_archive/photo_archive_e.asp and click on the Ships tab in the menu on the left side of the screen you will be taken to an alphabetical list of ships and from there to the photos. The images are for non-commercial use and should not be re-sold. If images are used in various media they must carry an appropriate notice that The Department of National Defence is the source.

There are lots of amazing images in this archive including many of the fascinating gunshield art and unofficial badges applied by the Canadian crews. This is quite an enlightened approach and it is a pity that the Imperial War Museum, National Maritime Museum and other sources in the UK continue to charge for unattributed or out of copyright photos that are more than 60 years old.
